SYNTHETIC OIL is far superior to crude refined oil. In Vegas, I would go the expense for the superior qualities, without doubt. You can also go about 5000 miles between oil changes.
Just be sure to get the correct weight, (i.e. 5w/20w etc.)
Simply drain your engine completely, change the filter, and you are set.
synthetics can be helpful especially on higher mileage vehicles, but if you have not used them to this point and your car is properly maintained then you could stick with has been working for you. Remember that even if your synthetic may allow you more mileage between oil changes.. your filter still needs changed.
Definitely, synthetic is great, flows better (especially in cold start-ups) withstands heat better but change at same intervals, it still gets dirty just the same.
Yes, unless the car's manual suggests otherwise. My '90 integra's manual specifically mentions not to use synthetic oil - unfortunately I have never been able to find out why.
Synthetic oil is less likely to break down. However, your you should still change oil and filters regularly, except that now you can extend the intervals to say, twice that recommended in the manual.

Is a big mistake ,the old fashion mechanics does.Believe that using a thicker oil will protect better the engine.

also use the oil to cool the oil galleries at some level of oil pressure and speed of the oil through the gallery.

If you live in a cold winter place, synthetic, and synthetic blends are good choices, assuming your car is in good running condition, good compressions, does not use oil, etc. Maintain the same oil change intervals.
sure -- go for it. A co-worker with a Chevy S-10 had 220K miles on his engine. He only uses Mobile 1 oil. Every 3K miles he changes the oil filter and adds a quart of oil. He changes the oil totally every 25K miles. The engine ran like new and sounded great.
ihave 1986 Mercedes WITH 125,000 MILES AND I CHANGED TO SYN WITH NO PROBLEMS. NO BETTER GAS MILEAGE TO SPEEK OF BUT IT RUNS SMOOTHER AND COOLER. CHANGE THE OIL FILTER EVEY 3000 MILE AND YOUR Z WILL LAST FOR EVER
i own a repair shop,and that's probably one of the best things you can ever do for your car,,is switch it over to synthetic oil,,i have done all of mine,,my truck was switched at 80 thousand,,and car at 100k ,,and both are doing fine on it,,i have seen a lot of improvements in both vehicles also,,on cold starts,,and over all mileage has improved also,,but that's probably the best thing you ever can do for you car,is switch it over,,Mobil one is the best on the market right now,,good luck,,hope this help,s.
I would not recommend it with that many miles. if you're gonna run synthetic it should be done from day one of owning the car. some people swear by synthetics but i don't i've never ran synthetic in anything unless it is recommended by manufacturer.
I wouldnt. I would continue to use regular oil, and if it is consuming a little TOO much oil, I would use a lucas additive. You can also switch over to a high milage oil if you would like.
It is generally not a good idea to switch back and fourth between synthetic and regular motor oil. If your going to make the switch, your commited.
Alot of people midlessly believe all of these commericials, and feel that synthetic oil is the ONLY thing to use and that the world will end if you dont. Thats not true. Also, dont buy this ';10,000 mile oil change'; bs. You STILL need to change oil often. It isnt so much that the oil breaks down, but it loads up with contaminants and particles. No oil, synthetic or not, is going to prevent this from happening.
Keep running regular oil, and change it often. As I mentioned earlier, If you feel it is consuming too much oil, I would consider a lucas additive. I am a mechanic and we rarely use synthetic oil, and some of our customers cars have over 200,000 miles on them. A good customer came in today with his suburban. 1990 with 184,000 miles. Oil changed religiously, and no major problems.

if your engine makes no noise and does not have any running problems than yes it is OK but stay with it. if you want to know what oil is good than use Valvoline high mileage synthetic
I have a close friend with a 1986 300zx N/A He started using mobil 1 when he bought the car with 120,000 miles on it and right now its at around 320,000 and it still runs like a champ. Personally I recommend high quality synthetics to anyone. Just dont switch back and forth engines dont really like that.
It isn't usually a good idea to swith the type of oil in your automobile.If you do choose to change the type of oil you are using you should keep using it on a full time basis.If not it could damage your motor.Especially on a car with high mileage.Yes,synthetic motor oil is better for your car.It is desiged to handle the motor better at higher temperatures %26amp; it will not break down as fast.
Synth. oil is great but when you switch over check for leaks, (it tends to find leaks your regular oil didn't leak before) Check oil level often when and if you change over to synth.
I tried synthetic oil and rear differential lube. I rebuild my own engines. I never lost engine connecting rod bearings or rear wheel bearings until I started using a major brand synthetic oil and lube. If you insist on running an engine without coolant, then synthetic oil is great. Did that. Do I still use synthetic oil? Yes, I do, but not in engines. I use 0W-30 synthetic oil to make rusted bolts easier to remove. It works better than anything I have tried. Synthetic oil may have improved since 2000. I am too old to risk it.
