What weight of motor oil is recommended for 2001,2.4L mitsubishi eclipse?

At the dealer we ran 10w 30w in the winter and 10w 40w in the summer. Use stock Mitsubishi oil filters, Fram filters cause problems in Mitsubishi's usually lash adjuster noise.
The question is less about the particular car and more about the environment in which you drive.

If you live in really cold weather you should use a 5w30 or 10w40.

If you live in the desert and drive in a lot of traffic then you should use a 15w50 or 10w50.

The first number is the viscocity or thickness of the oil when it is cold, or when the engine is not running. The lower the number, the thinner the oil when it is cool.

The second number is the viscocity or thickness of the oil when it is hot, or when the engine is fully running and up to temperature. The higher the number, the thicker the oil will be when it is hot.

Actually it's a pretty cool thing if you think about it. It starts out thin so it is easy for your engine to turn over and start when it is cool. Then when it gets hot, the oil thickens up to provide better lubrication.

Best wishes,
