Has anyone ever heard of using motor oil on a dog's coat?

Yes, back in the Dark Ages when there was no way to diagnose mange (there are 2 kinds, you need to take your dog to the vet for a skin scraping to identify which mange it is) and no real meds for it.

However, VETS have been discovered, along with the New World, and there is now perfectly good medication for your dog's skin problems - something that isn't likely to kill him and doesn't work anyway.

Get your dog to the vet, find out what the skin problem is, and get the right medicine for it.

How would you like motor oil slathered all over you - and dogs lick their coats --- great recipe for a dead dog.

Please --- tell anyone who is still recommending this kind of old wive's tales to go stuff it.

While you are at it, tell them mercury isn't used to cure syphilis in humans any more either, just in case they still believe in that clunker.Has anyone ever heard of using motor oil on a dog's coat?
Are you out of you mind? Put motor oil on your hair. Motor oil is bad for human skin just think what it could do to a dog. A dogs coat is its clothes. Just put the motor oil away. put it in your crankcase, not on your dog.Has anyone ever heard of using motor oil on a dog's coat?
Heard of it, wouldn't recommend it. It's an old-fashioned method either for flea treatment or mange I believe, but it doesn't work and is very dangerous for the dog.
I had heard about this years ago, so i as the vet. He said to never use it. It is not safe for dogs %26amp; may make the the ill, or kill him/her.
It was an old method used when motor oil used to contain sulfur. Motor oil no longer has sulfur additives %26amp; wouldn't work now besides the fact there are plenty of inexpensive treatments available.
Doesn't work for any condition, and can seriously harm or even kill your dog because of the chemicals in motor oil. It's an old wives' tale (and very dangerous)
yea i've heard for mange... actually, i know some people who've tried it and it worked for them but i'd never ever try it on my own dogs.
as a pet groomer that works at a vet hospital i can tell you that is a very BAD idea... a real death to smoochie moment..
It's used motor oil and it was used for dogs with the mange.
I don't recomend doing this unless you want to harm or kill your dog.
Why would you want to do that and poison your dog.
No, but then I hang around fairly intelligent people.
Never.

It certainly cannot be safe.
Yeah, Don't. It's dangerous to your dog
NO
I knew of someone who put it on a dog once because the dog got sprayed by a skunk. They said when they washed the oil out the stink was gone?
i have it kills the mange on dogs
