Why is it that a quart of motor oil is cheap and a gallon of gas is soo expensive???

They are basically the same price (4 quarts = 1 gallon). Any price variation from there would have to do with the process it takes to refine gasoline. Although they are both petroleum products, they are not manufactured in the same way.Why is it that a quart of motor oil is cheap and a gallon of gas is soo expensive???
There is much less refining necessary for that quart of motor oil as there is for the various grades of gasoline, which undergo several more (supposedly expensive) steps of refining. Why is it that a quart of motor oil is cheap and a gallon of gas is soo expensive???
The costs to refine the oil into gasoline. The 20 - 25% federal, state, and local taxes. The ';boutique blends';.
Gas is so expensive because the price of oil per barrel has risen to a record high of $72 and some odd number of cents and gas stations have to pay that extra cost somehow so they pass the extra charge onto customers, pure economics, laws of supply and demand.
