They are basically the same price (4 quarts = 1 gallon). Any price variation from there would have to do with the process it takes to refine gasoline. Gas is so expensive because the price of oil per barrel has risen to a record high of $72 and some odd number of cents and gas stations have to pay that extra cost somehow so they pass the extra charge onto customers, pure economics, laws of supply and demand.
