Can motor oil give you cancer?

my dad says its bad for you and can give you cancer is this true? Can motor oil give you cancer?
Prolonged contact with petroleum distillates can cause cancer.

Any chemical that is manufactured will have a MSDS or a Material Safety Data Sheet. Magic markers are even havardous and can cause cancer if there is enough contact.

http://www.msdssearch.com/DBLinkSN.htmCan motor oil give you cancer?
Yes, it's possible. Prolonged contact with it has caused skin cancer in laboratory animals.

People should do a little bit of research before saying no so quickly.
Well its possible if you inhale enough of the toxic smell it may cause lung cancer and constant contact would probably give you skin cancer.
No scientific documented evidence exists that motor oil gives you cancer.
There have been some studies that petroleum-based oils are carcinogenic.
No. That's nonsense. Even ingesting it would make you very ill or kill you but you wouldn't get cancer from it.
Maybe, if you drink it !
idk sorry i think all fumes can trigger it
maybe if you drink it

ATV Motor Oil API service label question: can I use SM in place of SG, SH, or SJ?

I have a 2005 Can Am (or Bombardier if you prefer) 400cc Outlander ATV, and the manual says to use oil that ';meets or exceeds the requirements for API service classification SG, SH, or SJ.';

All I can find anywhere is SM. Can I use this? Will the the wet clutch be adversely affected?ATV Motor Oil API service label question: can I use SM in place of SG, SH, or SJ?
Absolutely. SM is the newest classification for oil by the Society of Automotive Engineers. It is what you should use and will exceed all of the previous service ratings. Also make sure, although I'm sure it does, that the oil also contains the identification GF-4, which is the newest ILSAC standards for oil and really the most important part.ATV Motor Oil API service label question: can I use SM in place of SG, SH, or SJ?
I'd suggest caution with motorcycle engines in this regard. SM rated oils have much less Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate (ZDDP), less than 0.08% phosphorous, an anti scuff additive If your motorcycle engine does not have roller tappets/lifters, SM oil lack of ZDDP can cause serious cam wear. Report Abuse

Yes, you can.

Each newer classification meets the requirements of the older ones, plus.

You may use a newer one, but should not go the other way, SF for example.

Wha is blow over when it pertains to the darkening of motor oil?

Coming from a seasoned certified mechanic, it amazing how so many people think that blow by plays a major role in darkening of the motor oil. What alot of folks are forgeting about is something called thermal break down. Thermal break down has about 78% of a role in making the oil dark as well as wear and fricton. Blow by only has about a good 12% of it having to contribute to the oil darkening process. New and realtively new cars only produce a small amount of blow by within the upper single digit #'s. Neglected engines have more. performance built engines are in the 8% percentileor less.Wha is blow over when it pertains to the darkening of motor oil?
It's called blow by. Compression gasses under extreme pressure get past the rings and get carbon into the oil. This is normal and controlled by the PCV valve.Wha is blow over when it pertains to the darkening of motor oil?
Never heard the term blow over! perhaps you mean blow by? Blow by happens in all engines and is caused by combustion gas escaping from the cylinders into the crankcase through the piston rings( blowing by the rings, get it?) and only becomes a problem when excessive, which would indicate bad piston rings. A compression test will tell you if you have excessive blow by.
added carbon to the motor oil (making it black)... All engines do this and it is absolutely normal...it is dangerous (rings are going) when there is blue smoke comming from exaust

Why is oil a cream color in a boat motor?

Boat motor is about a 1976 model mercruiser. Why is oil a cream color in a boat motor?
Oil should be a honey color, just like in your car. However cream color indicates a major problem. This is true of car and boat engines. Whether it's a blown head gasket or a cracked block, from freezing, or rust through. This engine is 33 years old, so I would be careful about undertaking major overhaul. It's replacement time. Why is oil a cream color in a boat motor?
On the older engines there are Hex plugs in the heads next to the valves and when raw water cooled they corrode and leak water into the head and that is mixed with the oil. That's just 1 area intake manifold leaking.Exhaust manifold leaking.Oil cooler leaking.
water probably got into the oil somehow
Water in the oil for sure. Don't run it any more till the problem is fixed.
the seal,s in the unit need to be replaced,

Can I replace Hypoid Type C SAE90 oil with Yamalube Gear oil for older outboard motor?

Can I replace Hypoid Type C SAE90 oil with Yamalube Gear oil for older outboard motor? Some say yes, some say no?Can I replace Hypoid Type C SAE90 oil with Yamalube Gear oil for older outboard motor?
Is this for an electric shift Johnson / Evinrude / OMC?

Electric shift systems can ONLY use type C oil. Using anything other that Type C rated (like yamalube gear oil) can cause shifting issues and may damage the lower unit.

  • Do you have to mix oil with the gas in a chrysler 45 hp outboard boat motor?

I just bought a boat, never had one before and was wondering if I had to add oil to the gas. It is a chrysler 45 hp engine.Do you have to mix oil with the gas in a chrysler 45 hp outboard boat motor?
This completely depends on what engine you have. It may be a 4 stroke and doesnt require oil and gas mix. You can tell if you look at the cylinder head and see of there are valves. Also look if there is a place to put or change the oil.

The difference between a 2 and 4 stroke is that the 2 stroke doesnt have valves (maybe a reed valve by the carb that lets fuel air mixture go one way and not the other) It uses oil in the gas to lubricate the crank shaft.

a 4 stroke engine is like your car where you have seperate oil for the crank shaft that needs to be changed. Dont mistake this oil for the lower unit oil, which needs oil to lubricate the parts going to the propeller.

You can usually tell by the noise that the engine makes. 2 strokes sound different than 4 stroke engines. If you dont know the difference, you should ask a mechanic.

The last answer was good for the ratio of oil that you should use.Do you have to mix oil with the gas in a chrysler 45 hp outboard boat motor?
Unless your engine has oil injection, and I'm almost certain that Chrysler never made an oil injected engine, then yes, you do have to mix oil with the gas.

I use one pint of outboard oil to six gallons of gas. It's a little bit more than it calls for, but it's easier to change out a fouled plug than to rebuild an engine.

Find a book on your engine. You should be able to get a decent marine dealer to order one for you.
    Mix is 50:1 ratio.

I dont know any older 4 stroke chrysler motors mine is a 1975 90HP and two stroke.

That ratio covers almost all marine motors.

    http://www.csgnetwork.com/marineoilfuelcalc.html/
absolutely, chrysler quit making outboards before they started making 4 strokes

    Lawnmower Motor Oil Mixture?

I have a Troy-Bilt push lawnmower (Model No. 11A-426A011) and I've been trying to determine what the oil to gas mixture should be before adding more engine oil. I've misplaced my users guide and the Troy-Bilt website doesn't offer what I need. Does anyone know if there is a standard mixture, or where I can find a chart for particular models online? Thanks in advance!Lawnmower Motor Oil Mixture?
thats not a two stroke motor.its a 4 stroke motor.only 2 cycle motors like weed whackers need an oil and gas mix.looking at this picture you have a seperate thing for the oil.so you use just regular lawn mower oil.100%Lawnmower Motor Oil Mixture?
If a small engine (like a push lawnmower) has its own oil tank (like every push lawnmower I have owned throughout my entire life) then you do not use a gasoline : oil mixture in the fuel tank.

The oil goes in the oil tank only.

You put regular gasoline in the fuel tank all by itself. (Though I do highly recommend an ethanol treatment nowadays)
Usually 50:1 ratio for a 2 stroke. 4 stroke engines (what I think you have) usually dont require an oli/gas mixture. Look around the mower to see if there is a place to put oil only.
if you have a place for engine oil its a 4 cycle and doesn't,t require a gas mix
The most common is a 4:1 mix. 4 ounces to a gallon of gas

Why does the '02 nissan frontier motor burn oil?

so why does it?Why does the '02 nissan frontier motor burn oil?
    Hello S77

The reason any vehicle burns more oil than it should is because the rings around the pistons are worn, broke or just bad. When you have bad rings the oil that is lubricating the engine is allowed to creep up into the expansion chamber where the spark plug explodes the compressed gasoline which forces the piston down. When oil has compromised the expansion camber the spark causes a type of smoke which would be bluish gray if this is the case. There could be other internal problems such as valve guides but either way you have internal problems. As long as it's not a oil leak that's drip onto the exhaust system while driving and shows no ground drippings. Good Luck BSWhy does the '02 nissan frontier motor burn oil?
What size 2.4 liter or 3.3 liter V-6? Oil consumption is something Nissans do not do. Unless there has been abuse like lack of oil changes, overheated or running with out an air filter element.

Recommended motor oil for 2004 Ford Ranger V6 with approx 20,000 miles?

I would definitely suggest at least a synthetic blend, pure synthetic is even better. Go with the minimum weight suggested in the book, probably 5w30.

Good brands are Havoline, Valvoline, Shell, and Castrol.

    Even better is MobilOne.

The absolute best is Royal Purple and Amsoil, but they're not really worth the money in my opinion.

AVOID PENZOIL AND QUAKER STATE LIKE THE PLAGUE THEY ARE.Recommended motor oil for 2004 Ford Ranger V6 with approx 20,000 miles?
5w20 or 5 w 30 is what ford says to use.

What kind of tranny fluid do i use for 92 9000 manual transmission? i'm told 10-30 motor oil-atf and gear oil?

anybody know the right formula??? plz help,,,What kind of tranny fluid do i use for 92 9000 manual transmission? i'm told 10-30 motor oil-atf and gear oil?
10W-30 motor oil, but not synthetic.

You can also get the transmission oil that Saab started recommending about 5 years ago (http://www.eeuroparts.com/Main/PartDetai鈥?/a> It is the only approved synthetic fluid and is rather expensive compared to the alternatives. You also need to clean out all of the old, non-synthetic old if you want to switch to this fluid.

ATF and gear oil is not recommended by Saab for this transmission, although some people get away with using gear oil in warm climates. What kind of tranny fluid do i use for 92 9000 manual transmission? i'm told 10-30 motor oil-atf and gear oil?
I dont think that you can drain the fluid on that type of trans as there may not be a drain plug.

If you can do it then use Castrol 10w30. If you live in cold climates, then you may use a minerl based such as Hypoy C oil also made by castrol. You can get this from your local saab dealer.
10w-30 or 10w-40, no gear oil

  • Can they refine used motor oil and make gasoline out of it? just wondering ?????

I don't think so. Gas (high octane especially) is one of the most refined products we get from crude oil.

The best quality gas has the most octane chain molecules, next regular gas, then diesel, kerosene, heating oil, lube oils and finally the least refined is the tars that are used in asphalt, shingles...

So no, the octane chains needed to make gas just aren't present in quantity in used motor oil.

EDIT: Didn't see funchy's answer while writing mine. She understands the process of refining oil as I also explained. Can they refine used motor oil and make gasoline out of it? just wondering ?????
Not really practical. Crude oil is a mix of all the petroleum products (gas, kerosene, diesel, jet fuel, motor oil, asphault). When it's refined it's seperated into each of these products, and after the product is seperated it can't easy be converted to a lighter oil.

There are plenty of uses for used motor oil that it's not really wasted anyway. Can they refine used motor oil and make gasoline out of it? just wondering ?????
Yes they can. But mostly it is cheaper for them to make Diesel instead of gasoline. And they already do that.

    Good luck...
Probably, but it wouldn't be cost effective. They can and do recycle it into home heating oil though.
    yes...but its not cost effectie

No, not really!Alrighty motorheads!! Is one motor oil better than another? i.e. Pennzoil, Quaker State, Valvoline?
The brand of oil isn't the issue, it's the type of oil that makes it ';better';. Conventional oil(petroleum based), Semi-synthetic(petroleum/man made blend) and full Synthetic(no petroleum used) are what's on the market today. If you change your oil %26amp; filter regularly, conventional oil is fine(after all it's been around since the advent of the automobile). Your Buick's V-6 is an OHV design and rarely sees over 5500 RPMs, so investing in semi-synthetic or full synthetic is fine for peace of mind, but isn't really necessary(IMO). Go with what GM recommends, all the major brands you've mentioned will be just fine.
This subject comes up all the time and everyone seems to have

a different answer so it's one of those battle answers.

Unless you've been using synthetic from day one. Buy what's on

sale and keep your oil changed on a schedule. Don't overdo it, and

don't leave gaps. Engine conditions and driving habits are going to

effect the engine a lot more than wondering which brand of oil to use.

I buy what's on sale, change my oil on a regular schedule, just pulled

the valve covers to do a gasket, and everything is as clean as a whistle. Use a name brand filter and you are ready to roll......
No, there really isn't a better oil than any other. It all depends how much you want to spend. The important thing to remember is to check for the type of oil your vehicle's maker suggests to use. SG, SH, etc. can make a world of difference for your engine.

Also, it depends on your climate that the vehicle is exposed to. This is where W5, W20 and such come into play. Your vehicle's manual has a chart on this as well. Take a look at it and you will be amazed.
Absolutely not. If you change the oil as recommended, they're all more than adequate.
    i swear by Castrol.

Can using the wrong motor oil void your warranty ?

Some may require receipts to do warranty work. It doesn't matter what brand (as long as its a high quality name brand like pennzoil, castrol, mobil, etc.) and I doubt they will have the oil analyzed,( which they can do!) to check its viscosity. Just stick with what the recommended viscosity is, and whatever oil meets or exceeds the requirements if there are any the car manufacturer states the oil must meet.... Just be sure to not use a fram oil filter... they cheaply made and overpriced. Can using the wrong motor oil void your warranty ?
Yes.Can using the wrong motor oil void your warranty ?
    Hi Joe,

If the car ';requires'; synthetic or synthetic blend then it's possible. There are a few that do require it, such as some high line European models.

In most cases using a different brand or slightly different weight will not void the warranty.

I'm curious as to what manufactuer Struggling told her that it will void her warranty or that they are the only ones that have the correct oil for her car.

I've not aware of any manufacturer that requires this, it's possible but I'm not aware of any.

wrong as in boat oil or household oil?? as far as like 10w 30 vs 10w 40 or castrol vs penzoil .. the answer would be no however not keeping a maintance log as to milage and dates may
yes if they can tell it, I have a newer car and I can only use the oil that goes with the car, they say-------that they are the ony ones that have it,that is was made special for the car--I am unsure, but I do not chance it either. It is supposed to be a special blend. I still have a year and a half to go--I am going to wait!
    Yes
    look up the small print
maybe, in auto class i think my teacher said it would.

Why is it that a quart of motor oil is cheap and a gallon of gas is soo expensive???

They are basically the same price (4 quarts = 1 gallon). Any price variation from there would have to do with the process it takes to refine gasoline. Although they are both petroleum products, they are not manufactured in the same way.Why is it that a quart of motor oil is cheap and a gallon of gas is soo expensive???
There is much less refining necessary for that quart of motor oil as there is for the various grades of gasoline, which undergo several more (supposedly expensive) steps of refining. Why is it that a quart of motor oil is cheap and a gallon of gas is soo expensive???
The costs to refine the oil into gasoline. The 20 - 25% federal, state, and local taxes. The ';boutique blends';.
Gas is so expensive because the price of oil per barrel has risen to a record high of $72 and some odd number of cents and gas stations have to pay that extra cost somehow so they pass the extra charge onto customers, pure economics, laws of supply and demand.

Which is a better band of synthetic motor oil, mobile one motor oil or pennzoil platinum synthetic motor oil?

Any motor oil that has the API-SM rating on the back of the bottle is good oil. Even the store brand non synthetic oil meets OEM specs for all new car warranty's. Name brand is a personal choice.

look in your owner's manual. the auto manuf. have reduced the thickness of the oil to increase fuel mileage. I would be aware of the seasons in choosing your oil. 2/20 is for extreme cold, where as 5/30 is good for cold and warm temps. if u r n the desert like phoenix, I would use a heftier oil, personally. 130 degrees is very hot.I have a 2000 Ford F150 can someone tell me the correct grade of motor oil? 5/20 or 5/30 or both?
Depends on the typical weather of the area you operate it in.

I live near Philly. It gets pretty cold around here, so I'll use 40 weight. The summers are brutal and I will put 30 weight in the ole mule.

    F150's are the best.

Ah Geez Edith, it depends on the temperature of where you live. Why are you using a such a huge multi viscosity? Call the dealer for crying out loud.

Has anyone ever heard of using motor oil on a dog's coat?

Yes, back in the Dark Ages when there was no way to diagnose mange (there are 2 kinds, you need to take your dog to the vet for a skin scraping to identify which mange it is) and no real meds for it.

However, VETS have been discovered, along with the New World, and there is now perfectly good medication for your dog's skin problems - something that isn't likely to kill him and doesn't work anyway.

Get your dog to the vet, find out what the skin problem is, and get the right medicine for it.

How would you like motor oil slathered all over you - and dogs lick their coats --- great recipe for a dead dog.

Please --- tell anyone who is still recommending this kind of old wive's tales to go stuff it.

While you are at it, tell them mercury isn't used to cure syphilis in humans any more either, just in case they still believe in that clunker.Has anyone ever heard of using motor oil on a dog's coat?
Are you out of you mind? Put motor oil on your hair. Motor oil is bad for human skin just think what it could do to a dog. A dogs coat is its clothes. Just put the motor oil away. put it in your crankcase, not on your dog.Has anyone ever heard of using motor oil on a dog's coat?
Heard of it, wouldn't recommend it. It's an old-fashioned method either for flea treatment or mange I believe, but it doesn't work and is very dangerous for the dog.
I had heard about this years ago, so i as the vet. He said to never use it. It is not safe for dogs %26amp; may make the the ill, or kill him/her.
It was an old method used when motor oil used to contain sulfur. Motor oil no longer has sulfur additives %26amp; wouldn't work now besides the fact there are plenty of inexpensive treatments available.
Doesn't work for any condition, and can seriously harm or even kill your dog because of the chemicals in motor oil. It's an old wives' tale (and very dangerous)
yea i've heard for mange... actually, i know some people who've tried it and it worked for them but i'd never ever try it on my own dogs.
as a pet groomer that works at a vet hospital i can tell you that is a very BAD idea... a real death to smoochie moment..
It's used motor oil and it was used for dogs with the mange.
I don't recomend doing this unless you want to harm or kill your dog.
Why would you want to do that and poison your dog.
No, but then I hang around fairly intelligent people.
    Never.

    It certainly cannot be safe.
Yeah, Don't. It's dangerous to your dog
    NO
I knew of someone who put it on a dog once because the dog got sprayed by a skunk. They said when they washed the oil out the stink was gone?
i have it kills the mange on dogs

It could be worn valve stem guides, piston rings or head gasket. If it is every cylinder, major, just one or two less major. If you are mechanically inclined and have access to a combustion chamber guage, find said cylinder/s one at a time get a reading on the guage according to guage instructions. Take out the guage and put some Marvel Mystery Oil down into plug hole (couple caps or so). Reconnect the guage and get another reading if it goes up it's the rings. If the reading remains low and stays the same it is the valve guides, head gasket or another worse case scenario a cracked cylinder head. Don't worry about the mystery oil, great stuff and it burns off when the engine is finally started, don't mind a little smoke, unless it already does. Then it's the obvious, pay out time. What would cause oil to gather in the cylinders of the head of a motor?
If I understand the question it sounds like the valve cover or covers are leaking. Check this first. Is it using a lot of oil or did you just notice the oil?

I have a 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL320; I just wanted to know what weight of motor oil should I use in the car.?

For '95, Benz calls for regular dino-oil but you can use synthetic if you wish. In my area, the dealers use 15W40 in the summer time and 10W30 in the winter time ( I live in Canada so our winters require a lighter oil ).I have a 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL320; I just wanted to know what weight of motor oil should I use in the car.?
Use 15W40 oil, and be sure you are not using an oil that is blended for diesel engines. There is a different blend of oil additives for gasoline engines, and 15W40 is a very common grade for diesels. On the back of the bottle you'll find API grades on a small circle. Diesel grades begin with the letter ';C'; like CF, CH, etc. Gasoline grades begin with an ';S'; like SC, SF, etc,,,,,so be sure to read the labels!

Also, do NOT use a lighter grade in the winter! Older BMW engines will be okay with different grades in each season, but Mercedes engines need to have 40 weight oil in them when they reach operating temperature. No exceptions.

If you're in a climate where you will be starting the engine in sub-zero temperatures every day you could swith to 10W40, then switch back to 15W40 when the weather warms up. But NEVER use an oil that is less than 40 weight when the engine reaches operating temperature.I have a 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL320; I just wanted to know what weight of motor oil should I use in the car.?
if you have the owners manual, consult it , or call a mercedes dealer or other reputable mechanic. Being it is probably a deisel engine , I would myself use Rotella brand oil , it has proven its merit in millions of miles in over the road trucks and also in construction machinery.

What is the best motor oil?

Someone told me Royal Purple is the best. What is the best motor oil?
all oils the same, except raceing, and syn,I run the sae cheap stuff got 188789 miles on my 2000 chevyWhat is the best motor oil?
Basically all motor oil in the US is the same, despite all the hype over brands and claims. Look on the container of oil and you will see lettering like ';SAE-****'; all oils must conform to standards
There is no doubt that synthetic Royal Purple is a superior motor oil and the many racing teams that use it is proof of that. But there are just as many racing teams and probably even more using Mobile 1, proof that it is an equally superior motor oil. I have never used Royal Purple but I did use Mobile 1 for many years until I switched to Amsoil after being convinced by wear tests done by an independent ASTM and ISO certified test lab proving that Amsoil is superior to Mobile 1, as well as many other leading synthetic motor oils.
mobil 1, royal purple, redline, are the three best oils.
royal purple is good for a racecar

Is it ok to use 10w-30 motor oil in a 2001 ford expedition?

    Yes...

Manufacturers require specific oil weights to meet MPG and emissions requirements. Going to a heavier viscosity, especially on a tired engine or in hot climates poses no problems. Is it ok to use 10w-30 motor oil in a 2001 ford expedition?
The guy above is right, I would go with synthetic oil.Is it ok to use 10w-30 motor oil in a 2001 ford expedition?
Yes But look it up in the owners manual.

Can you use regular motor oil with a yamaha blaster?

yea, only in the crankcase, 2 stroke oil in with the gas onlyCan you use regular motor oil with a yamaha blaster?
    In the crankcase, yes.

How to choose right motor oil ?

    Like 5W30

    what is 5

what is what is 30...... and et thanksssHow to choose right motor oil ?
5 is when cold it is as thick a a 5 grade oil and 30 is when it is hot it is as thick as a 30 grade oil, the number equates too the viscosity of the fluid the higher the number the thicker it is, the reason why it has 2 nubers is because it is designed to act like a 5 weight oil when a 5 weight oil is cold but a 30 weight oil when a 30 weight oil is hot, when a 5 weight oil is hot it is really really really thin and not good enough so the oil is designed to give the best abilitys of 2 types of oil so it is thinnish when cold so it still works when cold and it isnt alot thinner when hot so it still works when hot, without drawing a graph it is pretty difficult to explain it but i have done the best i canHow to choose right motor oil ?
The numbers listed on the motor oil are commonly referred to as the ';weight'; of the oil. They are a representation of the viscosity, or thickness of the oil at given temperatures. Common motor oils such as your example of 5W30 are a multi-grade oil. The first number indicates the base viscosity at a colder temperature, i.e, cold winter starts (and the ';W'; meaning winter) and the second number indicates the viscosity at normal engine operating temperatures (I believe based on an operating temperature of 100 degrees C).

When selecting which grade motor oil to choose, consider the temperature extremes the engine will encounter. Is the climate cold? Is it winter? Do you live in Miami? It is also a good rule of thumb to try, if at all possible, to keep the narrowest span of viscosity or least difference in the numbers on the bottle so that less additives (polymers) are needed in the oil.

Something else to consider woulf be switching to a full synthetic oil. Since synthetic oils are man made all the molecules are the same size therefore will flow consistently and provide better protection for your engine.

  • What would be the best brand synthetic motor oil for a 2006 Ford Mustang GT (5w-20)?

I've heard Royal Purple is the best, any objections? What would be the best brand synthetic motor oil for a 2006 Ford Mustang GT (5w-20)?
Royal Purple isn't necessarily the best. As someone posted, Amsoil, Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1, or even the OEM Motorcraft Synthetic engine oil are all very good brands, as long as you use the proper 5W20 weight that is called for. What would be the best brand synthetic motor oil for a 2006 Ford Mustang GT (5w-20)?
Paying 5x times for oil will not make the engine any better. In reality, well-built engines last indefinitely with regular oil while garbage ones fall apart with synthetic. To make it simple: don't waste your money.
    mobil 1 or royal purple
i own a repair shop, and royal purple is good but its not the best there is,the best one on the market right now is Mobil one 5-w-30 ,that has to be the best oil i have ever put in a vehicle in my life, i use it,and all my customers have switched over to it also, and i run around 8-10 thousand on an oil change and it still looks good, but they have the best blend for oil there is on the market right now,r-p is good but not that good, hope this helps, good luck with it.
Mobil 1, Catrol Syntec, Redline, Amsoil, Elf. all are good lubricants. check out www.bobistheoilguy.com for a lot of virgin oil analysis results on almost every oil made.
Almost all the oils exceed the specs set forth by the manufacturers. Which one is the best is almost as much personal preference as testing. But no one has said anything about the filter. The filter is as important as what kind of oil. If you are going to drive more than 3000 miles on your oil, get a good quality high capacity filter to keep the contaminants out of the oil. From the information I have seen, Amsoil has the best filter, with Wix being right up there. Wix makes filters for several different suppliers including NAPA. That would be the NAPA Gold filter. Don't go to walmart and get that $1.19 filter to save some money unless you will change oil at 3000 miles or less.

Also, stay with the 5w20 oil that Ford recommends. It will reduce your mileage and increase oil comsumption to change viscosity.
Forget it, Castrol Syntec Full Sythetic, Nothing else comes close.
    Royal Purple without a doubt.

High oil pressure in a Caterpillar 3216 diesel motor?

I have a 96 motor home with the cat 3216 motor, the oil pressure takes forever to get down to the normal pressure. the warning light stays on until the pressure drops to normal, even after i've driven it and stopped for a few minutes. when i restart the engine even though its already warmed up the oil pressure gets high again till it idles for a few minutes then drops to normal, is this normal?High oil pressure in a Caterpillar 3216 diesel motor?
Check it with a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

I have a 2002 ford focus and my ex put motor oil in my gas tank not sure how much and how long ago what to do?

If he only put a quart of oil in it won't hurt a bit as long as there is at least 10 gallons of gasoline in the tank. It will probably smoke quite a bit until it is burned out but at the same time will probably do some cleaning while running. As long as it is running ok now, don't worry about it but if if won't start have it checked by a mechanic.I have a 2002 ford focus and my ex put motor oil in my gas tank not sure how much and how long ago what to do?
It really depends on how much he/she put in the tank. Will the car run? If so, drive it and continue to periodically add gasoline until it quits smoking. Oil is heavier than gasoline, so it wont sink to the bottom of the tank where the fuel pick up is. If it will not start you may have to remove and drain the tank. Otherwise I don't think the oil will bother the injectors as it it burned off.I have a 2002 ford focus and my ex put motor oil in my gas tank not sure how much and how long ago what to do?
why and how do you know - what to do if ex did. fill with high test.it will burn through but keep using high test and put some smog pass in it or at least fuel cleaner injector cleaner.the catalytic converter can become clogged or the o2 sensor.while it wont harm them it will hamper operation of the engine.you may not even notice.but the computer will and adjust for it.
If it was just motor oil, fill the tank and drive it until that tank is almost empty before refilling..that will dilute any oil in the system and get it all out... It may or may not smoke a little while this is happening...but it won't hurt anything...
    1. If your car runs ok, then it didn't hurt it.

    2. If it bugs you, pour a whole bottle of fuel injection system cleaner into the fuel tank and then fill the fuel tank. This will help to clean out any residue.
well if the tank is low on fuel fill it up and you should be fine or have the tank drained.
wouldnt hurt a thing might make it smoke some but wouldnt do any damage maybe a tank of fuel or so it would be gone
    dont worry about it...

ATV Motor Oil API service label question: can I use SM in place of SG, SH, or SJ?

    I have a 2005 Can Am (or Bombardier if you prefer) 400cc Outlander ATV, and the manual says to use oil that ';meets or exceeds the requirements for API service classification SG, SH, or SJ.';

  • Wha is blow over when it pertains to the darkening of motor oil?

I have a dodge stratus i started getting a little engine knock. could that be fixed with a thicker motor oil?

Depends on what you mean by engine knock. True engine knock is caused by detonation of fuel due to an overly advanced ignition timing. Most newer cars have a knock sensor which causes the computer to retard ignition timing which eliminates knock. Thicker oil will have no affect on this type of condition.

If, on the other hand, you are calling valve tapping ';knock';, then, a thicker oil will help quiet this. However, what really needs to be done is to have your valves adjusted.I have a dodge stratus i started getting a little engine knock. could that be fixed with a thicker motor oil?
Eddie is a little confused, there is two kinds of knock, Ignition or Mechanical and that can be anything from tappet to rods or pistoin slap and so on. its up to you to figure out what it is, Now as far as oil Chris is right, but Chrysler does not recommend that heavy of a oil, it can cause a lot of engine problems wear, damage and cavitation.

Now us ';old'; guys used gear oil in the crank case to throw a bandage on the problem till we could pull the engine and rebuild it, It worked on my 80 302 bronco for 6 months

    So good luck

Don't use the gear oil idea you'll ruin the engineI have a dodge stratus i started getting a little engine knock. could that be fixed with a thicker motor oil?
I bet your pistons are getting a bit of carbon build up on them, which is raising compression and causing the detonation or ';knock';. Try using a higher octane gasoline (91) before you make the mistake of pouring honey into your engine. Ill bet using a higher octane will fix ur problem
Well using a thicker oil can reduce the appearance of the knock but won't prevent the end result. Also, it will kill your fuel mileage. A 20w50, 30w or something along those lines can help, yes. But a different oil won't ';fix'; anything
some of the old school guys claim using something like a 10-40 or 15-40 will help, i personally couldnt tell you

Can i get an infection from leaving motor oil on my hands for days at a time?

no i dont see how you could as long as its just motor oil i dont think you could get an infection even with cuts on your hand i dont think motor oil could do any harmCan i get an infection from leaving motor oil on my hands for days at a time?
Does that mean you haven't washed your hands for days at a time, because not washing your hands for days definitely leads to infection. Can i get an infection from leaving motor oil on my hands for days at a time?
Of course. It's full of Motoroilius bacterius.
possible if you have any cuts on your hands but either way thats just kinda dirty
    why would you do that???

anyway, probably not unless you have scratches or something on your hands

although, I would just wash it off if you had the chance, because the skin does absorb stuff through it which could give you blood poisoning

How many miles do you change you motor oil in your car?

At least every 3000 don't believe people when they say 5000 or even 6000 especially if you use conventional oilHow many miles do you change you motor oil in your car?
If you are smarter than the average bear, you will be using a finer synthetic oil in your ride. These oils can last 3 times longer than regular oils, and clean the engine as you drive instead of making sludge. They improve fuel mileage, reduce engine wear, and reduce emissions. Check your dipstick regularly. When these oils get very dark or thick, it's time to change. Amsoil oil promises 25,000 miles or one year. Forget about regular oils. Take them right out of your consciousness. Read the label of the oil you choose. THe name of your car-maker should appear somewhere on the back label,as in, ';meetes or exceeds the requirements of GM specifications,'; or ';engineered for use in VW requiring specification 502/505.'; Etc. Get it, Booboo???How many miles do you change you motor oil in your car?
Every 3,000 miles. I change the filter, too-- every single time. What's the point in getting the dirty oil out if you're going to have clean oil running back through a dirty filter?

The 3,000-mile interval is the ';severe duty'; change interval in my owner's manual (2006 Ford Ranger 2.3L), and given that I drive mostly long stretches of divided 65-mph highway, I could probably use the ';moderate duty'; service interval-- I think it's every 5,000 miles. But I only have to change my oil three or four times a year, and given that the Motorcraft OEM oil and filter are relatively cheap, I figure it's cheap insurance that will give my truck a longer life. It doesn't hurt that I'm giving myself a good excuse to get under the truck every 3,000 miles and check the other vital areas (transmission fluid, rear differential level, tie rods, ball joints, coolant, air filter, power steering fluid, brake fluid, etc.).
With a new car under the power train warranty, I take it into the dealer according to the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual. Once my cars are out of warranty, I change the oil every 9,000 miles with an OEM oil filter and http://www.mobiloil.com synthetic oil.
3,000 miles or 3 months, they have done studys that say if you do nothing but highway miles its safe to change it 6,000 miles, but if you do a lot of short drives in the town do it every 3,000. i change mine every 3,000 cause i like to take care of my engine
I change it 4 times a year: March, June, September, %26amp; December. This works out to about every 4,000 miles. I prefer to have clean oil as I enter each of the seasons.
normally i change it every month. no matter how far it goes. the different is the older the car is, the cheaper oil i use.
Every three months for three thousand miles. I actually don't know, I'm in lecture right now and I just asked my instructor.
well normally its every 3000 miles but now they are starting to make oil and filters to last long like 5 to 8 thousand miles
    Every 3000 miles.
I change mine every 3,000 miles.
When it starts looking dirty on the dipstick.

Why couldn鈥檛 God have created in us an aversion to sin like we have an aversion to drinking motor oil? ?

Because he gave us free will. some take the wrong path. Why couldn鈥檛 God have created in us an aversion to sin like we have an aversion to drinking motor oil? ?
Can you imagine a world without sin? Where do you have fun? A little bit of sin is good for you, it makes you the better person through your experience and your winning toil agaginst Satan. You only have an aversion as a knowledgeable person, when you were a child you would have probably drank it and anything else put in front of you, it is not a God given aversion. Oh almost forgot, I think he was also giving his chosen ones the freedom of choice, through our cognitive reasoning. Why couldn鈥檛 God have created in us an aversion to sin like we have an aversion to drinking motor oil? ?
God did it is called a conscience. But most people think that is something named Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio

Read here in timothy how our very times we live in is prophecied. It can't be true since you think there is no God.

Do you think it was an educated guess maybe?

    1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

    2Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

3Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

Some people actually try motor oil. That is why the warning is on the side of the carton. But if God made us that way, we would be automatic in our response. God wants us to push aside our own desires and adopt His ways. While it is not easy, it is much more healthy, physically, emotionally, economically and socially. God created us with choice, where aversion would have erased it. With this choice, when we choose God, it really pleases Him. He knows when we have chosen Him when we do as He commands.
That would not be free will. In order to have untainted or non-prejudiced free will, God must hide Himself and provide an equal choice of good or evil.

    Deuteronomy 30:19

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.

KiraJen is correct. Once you make the decision to choose Jesus as Lord and Savior, an aversion to sin does come in to play. Sin becomes as distasteful to us as motor oil on the palette.
    Mmmm... motor oil. *chuckle*

BTW: Radiator fluid is colored bright green at the factory because it is highly poisonous but not unpleasant to drink (animals are drawn to the flavor, in fact). The color was believed to look like something dangerous to drink.
Once you accept Jesus into your heart, the holy spirit starts to work on you and the thought of sin becomes more and more repulsive, of course there will still be some sin in us, that is human nature, but for the most part, we will have no use for it, and when we do sin, we will feel bad about it and seek forgiveness.
When the Holy Spirit is indwelling in us, it creates in us an aversion to sin.

If we reject the Holy Spirit's presence, we do not feel the aversion.
The only possible answer is that God likes to play with people or exert excessive power over them. I agree with you, if God exists, he should not allow people to sin, rather than punishing them when they do so.
    He did.

Adam and Eve were born without any sin. But they sinned anyway thru' their diobolical pride and caused evil to come upon all mankind for all ages to come. Original sin.
because drinking motor oil is wrong and we tend to like to do wrong

place a clean oil can in a room

fill it with water and tell a child not to drink it

what do you suppose would happen?
Because apparently that would have been TOO easy for an all-powerful all loving god. /sarcasm.
We do. It's called conscience. We just don't always listen to it.

(And it works whether you're a christian or otherwise.)
A question better asked of God. But if we did not have a free an open choice we would not be able to become Children of God

    we'd be angels
    Good question.

Probably because you can't create anything if you don't exist.
Then we wouldn't think that we need him...

    We wouldn't rely on him...

We need God, and he wants us to know it.
That would make it too easy, wouldn't it?
Hey! Lay off motor oil drinking!
Nothing like a cold, refreshing glass of 10W40!
If my aunt had she would have been my uncle.

    God's way by faith.

    DFF
    LOL

without sin, why would we need god?
    I'll Drink To That...LOL...!!
without sin, why would we need god?
He DOES in some of us! He will in you too if you ask Him!
What, and fill Heaven with riffraff like us?

  • Did you know...old motor oil can be used to fertilize your lawn?

Would that be a good thing or bad if someone acutally did itDid you know...old motor oil can be used to fertilize your lawn?
no I didn't know that actually we are not allow to pour it on the ground because:

Used motor oil is recyclable. Although it gets extremely dirty, it will never wear out. The used motor oil that is taken in to a recycler may be re-refined and made into lubricating oils that meet all the same specifications of non-recycled motor oil. It may

get processed and burned in special furnaces for heat, or used in power plants to generate electricity for our homes, schools, businesses and industries.

Putting used motor oil in the trash or dumping it out on the ground is not an option today. (((Used motor oil disposed of improperly can be very dangerous to the environment because it can contain benzene, lead, arsenic, zinc and cadmium.))))

Recycling used motor oil helps protect the environment and save energy because:

One gallon of used motor oil can contaminate 1 million gallons of fresh water - a year's supply of water for 50 people.

It only takes one pint of used motor oil to put an oil sheen on a one acre pond.

The amount of used motor oil disposed of improperly by Do-it-yourselfer auto mechanics every eighteen (18) days is approximately 11 million gallons.

One gallon of used motor oil that is re-refined will produce 2.5 quarts of lubricating oil, but it takes 42 gallons of crude oil to produce the same 2.5 quarts of lubricating oil.

Re-refining used motor oil takes only one-third the energy of refining crude oil to lubricant quality.

Americans who change their own motor oil throw away 180 million gallons of recoverable motor oil every year, while only 20 million gallons are recycled.

If the 180 million gallons of used motor oil that is disposed of improperly by Do-it-yourselfers each year were recycled, it could produce enough energy to power 360,000 homes each year or could provide 96 million quarts of high-grade motor oil.

The United States generates a total of 1.3 billion gallons of waste oil each year of which 800 million gallons are recycled and 500 million are disposed of improperly.

If we re-refined the 1.3 billion gallons of waste oil generated in the United States each year, we would save 1.3 million barrels of oil per day, or half the daily output of the Alaska pipeline.

Nearly 40% of the pollution in America's waterways is from used motor oil.

Used motor oil often contains toxic metals such as benzene, lead, arsenic, zinc and cadmium, which can seep into water tables if dumped on the ground.

The failure to recycle used motor oil in the United States represents not only an environmental and human health hazard, but a missed opportunity to reduce our nation's dependence on foreign oil.Did you know...old motor oil can be used to fertilize your lawn?
    Bad I'm afraid.

There are some nasty contaminants in the old oil with some serious health concerns. The oil might have come from a faulty engine, allowing cooling water to get in there (anti-freeze), or from an old engine that used leaded gas.

Generally it would need the oil to be thoroughly cleansed to meet environmental standards and that would sadly probably use more energy than it's saving, especially with the collection of the old oil to be considered.

I am a little puzzled as to how old oil might be used to make fertilizer thought, since oil is mainly carbon and hydrogen atoms, while fertilizers are mainly nitrogen and oxygen.

At the moment, many garages get around the problem of disposing of old oil by burning it instead of fuel oil to keep the garage warm.
yeah, and it tastes mighty good on salads too!

    Best Synthetic Motor Oil?

I have an LT1 with some modifications like cam, rockers, rebuilt engine, new heads and etc.

I think I want to put in Mobil 1 15w 50 or Royal Purple 20w 50. My car's rev is higher than it was stock before and could use that little extra protection. Any suggestions? ThanksBest Synthetic Motor Oil?
Can't go wrong with Royal Purple.I have an 87 Turbo Regal, and was a faithful Mobil ! user, then my dad told me about Royal Purple(He has a 70 Buick Gsx 455,and swear by this oil.) So I ran some in my 85 GN,and I will say this is some impressive oil!!! Try it out.Best Synthetic Motor Oil?
Amsoil synthetic 20W-50 racing oil: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=14鈥?/a>
Since your car is modified, you can't go wrong with Royal Purple or Redline. These oils are made for modified to slightly modified engines. Those other synthetics are good enough for stock engines and normal driving.
Mobil 1 has the largest oil company in the world behind it, the most research and has been around longest. If the oil is good enough for for a F1 car running at 18,000 RPM its good enough for an LT 1.
I'd go with royal purple. I've heard it works really well. Plus its 20w not 15w. That will help in a higher powered engine. Plus royal purple is made especially for modified engines.

VALVOLINE HIGH MILEAGE OILI have a 1993 nissan 240sx it has 202k miles on it what grade motor oil do i put in it?
first of all you need to know that oil is not just oil there is a difference dont know where he got that from you want to use a heanier weight oil and one for high miles and the best is castrol high mileage 20w/ 50 this is what i use in my shop it is very good oil and if you change the oil it will take 5 quarts dont forget to change the filterI have a 1993 nissan 240sx it has 202k miles on it what grade motor oil do i put in it?
I would suggest using castrol 20w50.
check your manual -- it is prob. 5W oil. Based on your mileage, you should use high mileage oil
my car has 250,000 miles on it. I always changed it myself and used Advance Auto Parts store brand 5W30 oil. Oil is oil it's all the same stuff just a different bottle, unless it's synthetic.
    5w30

What kind of motor oil do I use on a kawasaki bayou 300?

You use 80-90 in the front and rear end. I use synthetic for cold temps and it will roll much easier.

For the motor you can use a 20-50 in the summer if you ride hard. A 10-40 works good most of the year and a 5-30 oil is what to use if you ride in the winter and it sits out in the cold while you ice fish. A motorcycle or ATV oil is better because it is designed to run in the clutch but I haven't seen any problems using car oil either.

    Regular or Synthetic Motor oil?

    What is better for vehicles?

I hear Synthetic is better, but more expenseRegular or Synthetic Motor oil?
Synthetic.... keeps the engine clean (engines raised on it are usually spotless) this is the reason why vw, toyota... etc have specified syn for they're sludge prone engines (not all of em are prone to it) it pumps quicker in the cold so less startup wear, likes to stick better to the metal (some syns) and due to it having natural volume index improvers and pour point depressants, they are very shear resistent (go out of grade harder) and they will stand up to higher heat, longer.....

But don't count conventional out.... most oils today (like pennzoils) are group II+, its just short of being a fully hydrocracked synthetic.

People can get many a mile out of conventional as well.

Hydrocracked syns were fought about between castrol and mobil.... mobil being a true pao synthetic, castrol selling its hydrocracked oil as a syn.... at synthetic prices.... when it should cost alot less. Well they won.

Pennzoil platinum is another true synthetic to look at.

Don't beleive the ';you can't switch back'; bull...... you can and you need no engine flushes to change over either...., just drain the old oil (change the filter of course) and filler up with synthetic and drive.... simple as that.Regular or Synthetic Motor oil?
I like the synthetic's no real reason. My dad who is pretty car knowledgible tells me as long as your doing them on time it won't matter
yes it is more cost for synthetic oil and it is better. make sure that u get an oil flush though your engine. u just cant switch over from regular oil and if u start using synthetic u must stay using it.
    No Question. Synthetic.

Here my data - Astro Van 230,000, Silverado 260,000.

You can by a 5 quart jug of Syntech, at Walmart for 12.00.
my only comment is that you do not need to get engine flushed and yes you can switch from one to another. You can use synthetic for one oil change and then conventional the next they are completely compatible. I would just recommend that if you have a lot of miles on your car and hence it is leaking you don't use synthetic. It will not cause leaks but it will find them very fast and leak out easier than conventional oil. It is by far the best oil to use but do you really need it or will you benefit from it? Probably not. Unless your car calls for it from the manufacturer there is really no reason to use it. I hear people say all the time that '; I have 200k miles and all I use is synthetic';. Well I've owned and operated 3 quick lube centers for 20+ years and believe me I have seen more vehicles with 200k mile on them with conventional oils than synthetic. Simply put just change your oil on time and you should have no problems with either oil you choose.
Synthetic is good BUT way over priced for the term you get

I run the cheapest oil I can buy and my truck has 172,000 mile on it..
synthetic, lasts longer, holds up better
SYNTHETIC, 20 years building and racing.
good synthetic oil run,s about 5-6 buck,s a quart,,mobil one right now has the best synthetic oil i know of and I'm a mechanic,,been one for 35 yrs,and have tryed them all,,mobil one is by far the best i have ever seen as far as holding up,,i run it in my vehicles,,as well as my customer,s vehicle,s,,don't let anyone blow smoke at you when it comes to oil,,use a good oil,,it,s the life-blood of your engine,,you may also see a difference in your gas mileage also,,As the synthetic oil lubricate,s better,,it cost more,,but you can go longer on oil changes,,so you decide,,but in my opinion i would only use the best,,hope this help,s you.
i have started running syn in my crown vic (former police vehicle) at 173K , havent noticed a differnce but im sure it'll help, i used valvoline racing oil bought from advance auto once in a '93 1500 350 and made a big dif
Synthetic oil has smaller molecules and is increadibly good at redusing wear. HOWEVER, it should not be used in the initial break-in period becase it will prevent the engine from actually ';breaking-in'; due to its lack of friction. Also, it should not be used in a high milge ehical that has been running on conventional oil becausethe smaller-moleculed synhetic will more easily leak through worn seals

Do you recommend adding motor flush when performing oil change?

Accepting answers from people who speak from experience or certified mechanics.Do you recommend adding motor flush when performing oil change?
No I don not. You should never need such a product if you take care of the engine. As long as you use a major brand of oil and change it on a regular basis you should never have the need to use it. If you do have sluge in your engine then you have one of 2 problems. Either you dont change the oil enough or you have and internal coolant leak and the oil is getting contaminated with coolant. Doing a flush will do nothing but harm your engine. You are better off to keep the sludge in there if you have so then to do a flush and loosen all the stuff up. Not to mention the damage it can do to your gaskets and bearings. If someone is trying to sell you this service they are just interseted in making money and are not interested in the well being of your car. If you do have sludge then either get a pressure test done to make sure the intake or head gasket is not bad and if not then start changing the oil a little sooner each time until it cleans up.Do you recommend adding motor flush when performing oil change?
most motor flushes are kerosene I wouldn't put Into n my car and would advise you not to put it in your it had a tendency to clean out all of the sludge but it will have a harm full effect on the motors bearings

If your car does have a issue will sludge i would suggest you find a shop that sells BG chemicals and have them change your oil and use the product called MOA it has been around for a very long time and i swear by it
Never. If the motor is clean, you don't need it, and if the motor is full of sludge you'll just be breaking loose pieces of it and clogging passages everywhere.
you should not do This because the flush is too thin and it damages your bearings. Besides if you use a good quality of oil you should not have any sludge in th engine to be concerned with flushing. Next the flush just goes straight to the crank case and is pumped through the crank and cam only . Just use a good quality oil . i use Mobil one synteck and it does not carbon the engine and last double the miles that petroleum oil last Exp. retired aircraft mechanic
I wouldnt add any kind of flush like seafoam unless the oil has not been changed in ALONG time to cause any kind of sludge build up.

IMO I wouldnt unless its been abused
its not really a good idea ,,i own a repair shop, and a few of my customers have used this stuff,it seems to be bad for older engines,,because almost every time when someone uses it,,it usually causes a major leak in their car either with a seal,or a gasket,,its up to you ,,your the one who will have to pay the repair bill on it,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.
I allways do helps to keep sludge down and keeps motor cleaner.
add half a quart of trans fluid to your oil when doing an oil change. works just as good or better.
No. Just use a good name brand oil. They will keep the engine clean. Never use a non detergent.
motor flush isnt a bad idea on high mileage cars.I use to use atf in the oil and run ir til the motor got up to temp and then drained it and changed filter also
i do this when i go over the 3000 mile mark to change my oil...it helps my engine and i need all the help i can get.. i have a ford contour...blah...

Air cooled four stroke engines love 20-50w oil. It would be best getting an oil that is specifically formulated for motorcycles. Because the engine and transmission have a common sump and the clutch can be affected by using the wrong oil.

How much pressure does the mechanical gage show. This would be the tale-tale test. The engine may have over 100psi when started cold and drop after it warms a little.
High oil presure on a cold motor is normal don't be concerned

Can we replace petrel and motor oil before time runs out?

theres plenty of oil in the world, you don't have to worry about that, they just want you to think that so they can keep the prices high. There is enough oil in alaska alone to last 3 or 4 generations that hasn't even been tapped into yet, theres enough oil in U.S alone that we could tell the arabs to kiss off if we had a smarter goverment and be self sustaining. Can we replace petrel and motor oil before time runs out?
I think we can replace the petrol or motor oil by bio-fuel. i.e. refined fish and chip shop leftover oil or refined plant oil. This would be good for the future market as this is environmental friendly and renewable. Can we replace petrel and motor oil before time runs out?
What? Who's and why is time running out?

We need to wait a while longer. My oil stocks are only up 400% in the past 3 years. I am shooting for 1000%.
yes, we have electric and hybrid vehicles now
if you mean petrol filer? then yes of course

you can replace when ever you want too!

but replce petrol on its own you will need to drain tank not an easy job?

I'm not sure about petrel, but petrol is already replaced with electricity in some cars... They are not quite as cool but at least they don't pollute as much.
There are already alternate sorces of fuel on the market mineral oil from plants , bio fuels from plante and there are two models of cars that run on electric and hydrogen

How do I top up my car with motor oil?

how much do I put into it??

many thanks peopleHow do I top up my car with motor oil?
you need to find your dipstick..then you can check the level. How do I top up my car with motor oil?
You check the oil first so it will depend on where the level is when you check it usually the dipstick will have a mark indicating full and add. The add mark will usually indicate that it needs about a quart. So add about a 1/2 quart and check if it comes half way to the full mark add the rest
assuming it is low , as mentioned by others by pulling out the metal dipstick ( found somewhere on your engine - depending apon what vehicle you have?). you must then put oil in slowly ,ensuring that your car is on FLAT ground 1st !,.then usually you can put the oil in where the dipstick is pulled out from......

if you stated your vehicle you could gain a very accurate answer.

Good luck - remember FLAT ground when you do it
You need to check your dipstick as someone else had advised and this time look for the diamond markings on the dipstick. If the stick is showing there is some oil on it you are barely a quart short. Remember to clean the dipstick before you make any reads. If the oil reads half up the diamond markings you need half a quart. Read the stick after you put the oil in this way you know how much you are putting in. Good luck!
you unscrew the cap that's on top of the cam/valve cover and then you add as much oil that's needed until it reachs the max mark on the dip stick
Open the nearside rear window and keep pouring until it runs out of the window, then it will be full.
    KEEP XHECKING WITH DIPSTIICK
    about 2 grams

  • Have you ever had a car that the motor had sludge or oil issues do to in-frequent oil changes?

Yes I have! and if you try to clean it out of the motor it smoke like a wood stove!Have you ever had a car that the motor had sludge or oil issues do to in-frequent oil changes?
No. But there are ways to deal with this. The most hardcore involves auto-rx.com. This product works. Less costly (and less effective) alternatives include Mystery Marvel Oil and Seafoam. These are additives you add to your oil (like 500 miles before an oil change) that clean out sludge and deliver it to the oil filter. It is important to replace the oil filter everytime you change your oil. If you want to keep systematically cleaning your engine, switch to synthetic oils. These prevent sludge build up and help remove some as well.

Note: If your car has over 75,000 miles, synthetic oils may not be the best idea. They tend to clean too well over time and cause leaks in seals.

auto-rx is the solution to your issue if you are really concerned and want your engine to last a long time.Have you ever had a car that the motor had sludge or oil issues do to in-frequent oil changes?
The number one reason for oil changes is to prevent the formation of sludge. It's important to understand how sludge forms and how sludge formation is prevented.

    How Sludge is Prevented

Additive in the detergent oils 'wash' any contaminant particles off of internal engine parts and hold these particles in suspension until the oil is changed. It's important to understand that these particles are too small to cause engine wear, but they do turn the oil a darker color. The key thing is to change the oil before the oil becomes too saturated with contaminants to hold any more, but color is not an indication of this condition.

    How Sludge Forms

As explained above, modern detergent oils suspend contaminants so they do not settle on engine parts and form sludge. When the oil becomes saturated with contaminant particles new particles settle out of the oil onto the internal engine parts and form sludge. This is why it is so critical to perform oil changes before this level of contamination is reached. The only way to know if you're oil needs changing is to have an oil analysis done. Absent this, play it safe and follow the severe service interval specified in the owners manual. Remember that the contaminants come from the combustion process of the gasoline and and the air. Synthetic oil will not prevent these contaminants. Synthetics may be marginally better at suspending more contaminant particles, but not enough to prolong oil changes by much.

Never attempt to clean the inside of your engine with one of those engine flush procedures that many shops try to sell. If you've been diligent about oil changes there will be no sludge. If there is a lot of sludge then the last thing you want to do is to dislodge it all at once.

A good article about sludge can be found at: http://www.yotarepair.com/sludge%20artic鈥?/a>
Yes... kerosene will clean out the gunk very well. Drain the oil and replace with kerosene. Then remove the coil wire to keep the motor from starting and then cycle or crank the motor. Again you do NOT want the engine to actually start. do this on and off for about a half hour allowing time for he starter to cool between crankings. Then drain all the kerosene out of the motor and remove the oil filter. Replace with new oil and a new filter. Always use the same type and brand oil.

In 2-t motor oil, what is the meaning of 2-t?

Yes, 2-t means it is for a two-stroke engine. Most modern motorcycles above 250cc have four-stroke engines (except maybe some of the dirt bikes).

To see an explanation of the four-stroke (and two-stroke) enigne.

    Yes ! You're right !

In France, we say ';temps'; instead of ';stroke';, which means ';time';.

4T is a four stroke engine...

So ';2T oil';'s translation is ';huile moteur 2 Temps';.
    2 stroke motor oil
It's engine oil specifically formulated for 2-cycle engines...
Two Stroke .... 2-T oil.... So this should be used only for 2 stroke cylinder motorcycle or scooter.....
2-t is French for Deux Temps - It means two-cycle.

because oil reacts differently with some materials than power steering fluid, you could have severely damaged the pump it self. if you drive a honda, you have made a grave mistake. good luck.

    Mobil1 Full Synthetic.
the Castrl GTX is a high detergent motor oil and so are all engine oils ffor diesel motors. Just be aware that if you do use a high detergrnt oil in an old motor the there will usually be carbon build-up behind the rings and once you use the high detergent oil that the rings will lose tension and the engine will be inclined to start burning oil and suffer from blow-by.
Castrol GTX or Castrol GTX High Milage

What's your advice on motor oil?

I used a synthetic blend (Mobil 1) last oil change and I am very pleased with the product. I would like to know if a full synthetic (Valvoline SYNpower is on sale) is an even better choice or what the differences would be

Thanks in advance for your opinion! .

(My baby is an '02 Chevy Avalanche with 65K 潞脺潞 )What's your advice on motor oil?
    full synthetic is better.

How many models come from the factory with Mobil 1 full synthetic?

    MANY!

Most of the cars i work on (mercedes) go 10,000 miles or more on full synthetic mobil 1. And thats what mobil 1 is designed for.

I honestly have no experience with the other full sythetic oils, just mobile 1.

It does cost more, but you get extended oil change intervals and better piece of mind. Both my cars and my bike run mobil 1 only!

but its a touchy subject for many auto hobbyists.

    As everyone has there prefference.

If you change your oil and filter at 5,000 max miles, then i would think any full synthetic that meets all your specifications (basically your name brand oils) will work just fine. As a side note, make sure you let your engine idle for atleast 30 seconds or so after startup to get the oil circulated.

good luck! What's your advice on motor oil?
I am a mechanic and i have asked this same question. Today the oil is much better as i was years ago. Someone once told me oil is oil is oil. If you want to go longer on oil change intervals a sythetic is a good option. But regular oil is cheap and offers great protection also. If you have the money and want insurance for your motor then sythentic is a great option. If you can change it every 3 thousand then regular oil is fine.
Id stay with what works. Personally i would still change full synthetic at the 3000 mile interval. Oils still gets dirty if its synthetic or convetional. The only way id consider going over is if i had a top filter like a wix or a NAPA gold. Which is all i use.
when you use Mobile 1 you can never go back to any other oil because Mobile 1 makes a barrier to seal for the engine. oh and dont for get to us full synthitc form Moible 1
Full synthetic is better but also more expensive than a blend.
    i use castrol synthetic
    Well it works well.

it's for a mitsubishi starion '86Witch is the best synthetic motor oil?
There are many opinions out there about brands and everyone has different ideas of ';BEST';. I prefer to use Mobil 1 synthetics in all of my vehicles.

The question that I would have for you is why would you want to increase the cost of your oil changes in an 86 model car. Depending on how many miles the car has on it there is little advantage to switching to synthetic oils now. The anti wear properties that people use synthetics for are most likely not going to be able to be taken advantage of at this point in the game. I would suggest that you stick with a good quality motor oil such as Valvoline or the Non Synthetic Mobil 1 or even Castrol and a good oil filter every 3000 miles. You could even use one of the new ';High Mileage'; oils on the market made by these companies. They have extra detergents as well as seal enhancers that will help rejuvinate gaskets and seals to keep them from getting hard, drying out, brittle and leaking.

Castrol GTX if you can get it, you could try Halfords...Help 04 grand prix gt1, wat type of motor oil should i use???
If you'd like to go first class Mobil1 is pretty hard to beat. Partial synthetics are a waste of money reason being, oil companies do not divulge what the actual percentage is actually synthetic. Be sure to use the motor oil viscosity your handbook calls for.

Personally I like Valvoline, Havoline Deposit Shield and the only Pennsylvania oil on the market Brad Penn. Please don't forget the oil filter. AC-Delco, NAPA (made by Wix) and the new Pure One filter made by Purolator.

Leave the discount store Fram filters on the shelf.
use either 5w30 or even 10w30 will be ok. if it has alot of miles, use a high milage oil. theres alot of good on on the market, but quaker state, i wouldnt oil my hinges with that crap. valvolie makes a good oil, mobile is another good oil. myself, i use high milage pennzoil in my car, i never have any trouble with it, but ill let you decide on what brand.
    Mobil 1 is good stuff.

What motor oil do i use for a 2004 ford explorer?

If you pop the hood of the car, sometimes there is a chart about the engine... type of oil how many quarts etc. Also another place to find out is in the car manual. Probably 10w-40 but check to make sure. What motor oil do i use for a 2004 ford explorer?
anyone will tell you it all depends on how many mills the car has. if its over 75,000 miles use synthetic oil for cars over that amount of miles. if it has more than 1000,000 use oil for high mileage cars.

    Bad!!

Oil used to contain sulphur which was used to treatment for mange. However the motor oil now doesn't contain any sulphur products so it is absolutely no help %26amp; can poison pet.Burnt motor oil on a Dog for mange and parasites Good or Bad !?
    WTF,

Okay dude, Give your dog to a shelter , IF you cannot afford Vet care,Your going to kill your poor dog, How do you afford Vaccinations %26amp; The yearly cost of owning a dog? It's a illegal to go around w/ an infested dog. jeez, This is sad!Burnt motor oil on a Dog for mange and parasites Good or Bad !?
i've heard it helps i've never seen it done though. I personally would just take the dog to the vet, its less messy, and they will be able to give it medical attention proven to work rather than an experimental cure like burnt motor oil.
    Stupid useless ignorant fairy tale.....DANGEROUS
I don't think it good i never heard of burnt motor oil is good for the dog at all.You need to call you're vet
What do you think? Bad of cause! Take dog to the vet to get appropiate Mange TREATMENT~!

Traditional treatment includes dips of Mitaban, a potent insecticide, every week or two, preceded by a hair clipping and benzoyl peroxide shampoo to clear up skin infections and open the hair follicles, where the mites live. Side effects include drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, and uncoordination. Mitaban should not be used on small dogs or very young puppies. When skin scrapings are negative twice in a row, the dip and bath regimen is stopped, and the dog is rechecked in one month.

Newer treatments include Interceptor, also used as a heartworm preventative, administered daily. However, this is an expensive alternative because it has to be continued for three months.

Ivermectin is a heartworm preventative that can be given daily to treat generalized demodectic mange. It is cheaper than Interceptor but tastes bad, and may have to be injected.

Another type of demodicosis is demodectic pododermatitis, or demodectic mange of the paws. Old English Sheepdogs and Shar-peis are particularly susceptible to this. Biopsy may be needed to find the mites and make the diagnosis.

Good nutrition, control of other parasites such

as worms and fleas, and keeping up with vaccinations are all important factors in prevention, although alternative veterinarians believe that vaccination actually lowers an animal's resistance to demodicosis. They recommend homeopathy, fasting, and various vitamins and minerals, along with applying fresh lemon juice to the affected area. All veterinarians agree that cortisone should never be used to treat demodectic mange.
Bad and it doesn't work. Get medication from the vet for your dog's mange
not bad but probably unpleasent. how would you like a bath in motor oil. burnt motor oil at that
BAD! BAD!! BAD!!! Please see your vet!
    sure -- it's not bad...

    here's how you do it:

Smear the oil all over yourself - light it on fire and burn it. Then, after you get home from the hospital, take the dog to the vet to have it treated.
no try using garlic pills they work for my dog
I'm not being offensive to all advices, but burnt oil really works. I have seen this worked many times. It does cure mange after applying on your pet for a week or two. The reason I know this because I came from a poor country. I know it's not healthy but it does work.
    What do you think?
I am not a Veterinarian but I am a mechanic among other things. I know what is in oil as well as what oil is. I can't imagine it being any good on an animals skin.

Go get the right stuff. Isn't your dog, your friend?
Not a very healthy thing to do.What type of mange does the dog have? There are better and safer things to use.Ok here is link to prove the unsafeness of this method, used to educate the uneducated: http://www.cwob.org/oneissue.html
Absolutely GREAT, my husband has always done this on our animals and friends and families animals it works and it doesnt hurt them. I would do that way before I ever brought my animal to a doctor.

I HAD TO EDIT THIS CAUSE I CANNOT BELIEVE PEOPLES IGNORANCE, I GUARANTEE THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE ON HERE HAVE NEVER EVEN TRIED IT, IT DOESNT HURT THE DOG, OR THEY WOULD WHINE!!!!!! IT HAS ALWAYS WORKED FOR FLEAS, MANGE, TICS, EMAIL ME IF YOU WANT ILL SHOW YOU PICTURES OF THE BEFORE AND AFTER!!!! YES IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE TIME, JUST LIKE A PILL OR A CREAM A DAMN DOCTOR WOULD GIVE YOU!!!!!

Which would flow faster down a 10cm ramp inclined at 30 degrees, apple juice or motor oil?

I would think apple juice cause it runs faster than motor oil which is thicker.Which would flow faster down a 10cm ramp inclined at 30 degrees, apple juice or motor oil?
apple juice...always, doesn't matter the degree of incline. Juice is thinner and will flow faster.Which would flow faster down a 10cm ramp inclined at 30 degrees, apple juice or motor oil?
the apple juice. It doesn't has as much (can't spell it) Viscosity. lol.
    motor oil
whatever has a more liquid consistency will always flow faster, no matter what the angle is

Will a half opened cans of synthetic motor oil ';spoil';?

Not unless you have allowed it to remain open and gather up all sorts of dust and debris. Neither will natural oil decay fast enough to be of concern. Will a half opened cans of synthetic motor oil ';spoil';?
    NO......!

How do you half open a can?

    Grumpy says: ';Clem...half open a beer for me.';

    Clem Says: ';Grumpy, you know I lost my half opener the other day at the pond, it went in the water with my fish straights.';

Yours: GrumpyWill a half opened cans of synthetic motor oil ';spoil';?
    No.
Not if you seal it back up and store it away from heat.
why didnt you open it all the way?? motor oil will not go ';bad'; as long as you put the cap back on
If it's only 1/2 quart why take the chance of getting it contaminated by dirt.

    put this in your car

1/2 quart is not enoug to hurt the engine because while your driving you will have almost 1/2 of your oil in the upper part of the engine
The only fluid in a car that will go bad if left open is brake fluid. Throw away a half open bottle of brake fluid after a few weeks. It is hydroscopic and thus will soak up the moisture in the air. The motor oil has no ability to soak up water, so no, your good.
NO! Oil that is not used will NEVER go bad!

What's the best motor oil for a chevy blazer?

What kind of engine do you have?? V8 V6 V4? Is that a sports car, or you just using it to drive back and forth to work?? They have dirrerent types of oil for each kind of car. But honestly, I usually only use Mobil Oil and gas for my car. I mean, they are the number one ranked gas station in the U.S. for a reason. It's great oil. And the gas is less watered down. Hope that helps. What's the best motor oil for a chevy blazer?
