Do you put marvel mystery oil in your gas tank or with the motor oil?

Marvel Mystery Oil is a petroleum based lubricating oil with detergent additives. When added to crankcase oil it can free sticky lifters and loosen up varnish and sludge. Modern motor oils already have detergents in them which help to prevent varnish and sludge build-up. So as a preventive measure, I don't think it is necessary. Just use good quality motor oil and change it regularly. Marvel Mystery Oil can also be added to the gas tank to loosen up sticky valves and prevent varnish build-up in your fuel system.... with the quality of gasoline available right now, there may be some benefit to this. What I'm saying is you can add it to the oil or gas, depending on what your goal is. You can also use it as a general purpose lubricant on door hinges and and air tools and so forth... and it can be used to prolong the life of gasoline during periods of storage since it floats on top of gasoline and provides a sealing barrier which prevents the solvents and hydrocarbons in the gas from evaporating ....or you can use it as a penetrating oil to free up rusty bolts and it makes a good adhesive remover.Do you put marvel mystery oil in your gas tank or with the motor oil?
no oil mixed with gas, is going to float on top of gas...., common sense. Report Abuse
Do you put marvel mystery oil in your gas tank or with the motor oil?
I know people that do both. the gas to ';lubricate the upper cylinder walls, and the oil for added protection and to clean oil channels in the motor.
Either!!!

WHEN ADDED TO GASOLINE MARVEL MYSTERY OIL:

Cleans and lubricates fuel injectors and carburetors

Improves gasoline mileage

Reduces and prevents varnish and gum build-up

Extends spark plug life

Safe for catalytic converters and oxygen sensors

WHEN ADDED TO MOTOR OIL:

Prevents valve sticking and clatter

Fortifies properties of engine oil, prevents breakdown caused by extreme temperatures

Promotes easier cold weather starts

Reduces and prevents acid and sludge formation

Marvel Mystery oil is the world's fastest penetrating oil. Designed to free rusted nuts and bolts. Penetrates the closest of tolerances between metal surfaces and leaves a non-corrosive film of lubrication. Can be used as a fuel additive. MMO is great for the home, shop, boat, auto or farm equipment. Marvel Mystery Oil does contain petroleum distillates, is extremely flamable and is extremely poisonous.
DO NOT put in in your gas tank. As for your oil, you'd be better off switching to synthetic oil. The only time I've used Marvel was in air tools and other type of applications where combustion was not a function.
You can do both, as it cleans out the injectors, - or carbureter as you drive, - when put in the tank. It also cleans out the engine internally when put in the oil!

Note to the guy above! gas can, - and does ';rot';, - or at least it goes bad and ruins carbutreters in as little as 3 months nowdays! It used to sit for years without problems when we used leaded gas!l Modern ';unleaded regular'; is the lawnmower shop operators best friend! Since people don't put a stabalizer in their gas when put away for the winter, - comes spring,- engine won't run, becasue carbureter is ';gummed up'; sometimes so bad it needs a new carbureter to run! The garages do a landslide business in gastanks, and fuel system parts, - as well as carbureters, and inj. system rebuilds for same reason!
To the first answerer..... marvel mystery oil is a light oil..... gas is a very very light oil in itself.... it doesn't ';float on top'; of the gas, it mixes just fine.... and it contains stoddard solvent.

It does for a short while stabilize it (but do not rely on it to do so!!)

It does lube the carb, fuel pump, and cylinder bores /valve stems and upper piston rings..., it also cleans (not instantly.....) but after a while it will clean and continue to keep it clean...

It has kept some problem carbs I had on engines with sticky floats from sticking and pouring gas everywhere....

In the oil it will clean, and free lifters (marvel mystery oil is not transmission fluid....) etc.... but I would not recommend doing this... maybe in a junker... maybe.

I have used MMO alot and swear by it in the gas.. and after looking at my combustion chambers after using it.... it does do a good job...

Its also good (not to be used in place of 2 cycle oil) in 2 cycle oil/gas mix at maybe a quarter ounce to a gallon.

It will improve gas mileage a little but not enough to notice...., if over used (if you use too much at one time) it will hurt gas mileage..

and it doesn't hurt catylitic convertors. May turn your spark plugs red.... but doesn't hurt them either.

It does not take place of lead in leaded gas.....
Are you looking to lubricate the upper end or lower end? In the fuel will lubricate the upper end more and in the oil will get the lower end more!
i own a repair shop, and rather than add things to my oil to make it better ,i think id change it to a better oil,,like a good synthetic oil and the best on the market right now is Mobil one it does exactly what it Say's it will do,and it also will help you get better gas mileage too i use it and a lot of my customers are switching to it,and all are very pleased with it,good luck i hope this help,s.
according to marvel mystery oil directions you can do it either way and as far as helping, I don't know, I used it a couple of times and didn't see any difference.
I've got this one.

I used to work for a guy that would winterize the small engines by having us drain the oil in the fall and put Marvel in the oil fill. Then drain that in the spring and replace back with the oil. He'd also have us put it in the gas. I think it tells how to mix it on the back of the Marvel.

The only thing it really does is sell Marvel Mystery Oil. Contrary to popular belief, gas cannot really ';rot';. It cannot possibly ';go bad';. It's been in the ground for millions of years, for crying out loud, it can't rot. Gasoline is a mixture of lots and lots of hydrocarbons of different lengths and configurations. What CAN happen is that the smaller molecules can evaporate off more quickly and then the mixture isn't right. You're left with larger molecules in your gas tank and the mix is off. This process happens faster in hot temperatures. It's really slow in really cold temperatures. In a container that seals and can hold in pressure, that process is slowed way down.

The way you can prevent having problems with gas is simply to make sure you don't fill the tank up in the fall. Use it pretty much up when you finish your last job. Then next time you use it in the spring, just fill it up with fresh gas. It should start right up. I've never seen that not work just as well as anything else. Marvel mystery oil doesn't do a thing one way or the other other than sell Marvel mystery oil. The real trick is somebody dumps all that out in the spring and then puts in fresh gas. Unnecessary and wasteful step.
its a real life saver for people who like mechanics in a bottle. lol if you have any doubts about your engine take it to a qualified professional.if you ever have any problems they can tell if you have used these products and the charge is more because of the mess they leave.
This is from first hand knowledge. My brother has an old tractor that is supposed to run on leaded gasoline that you can't buy anymore, his tractor mechanic told him to use marvel mystery oil in the gasoline to take the place of the missing lead additive. For you younger people lead was an additive that lubricated the valves. So guess what the tractor motor is shot and guess who gets to fix it. hint hint. I would urge caution at the least.
