Is synthetic oil or a synthetic blend better for my car than regular motor oil?

It depends on who you want to believe. The advantage of synthetic oil is that it is more chemically stable, so it resists burnoff and decomposition caused by heat, thus slowing the formation of sludge and carbon goop, which does not have the lubricating properties of oil. Oil decomposition (where long chain hydrocarbon molecules break down into shorter and shorter chains) is why motor oil loses its ability to protect the motor, and must be changed regularly to maintain that level of lubrication and protection.

I made the switch when I heard that the FAA had approved Mobil 1 synthetic for 200 hours of operation in aircraft piston engines. All other oils must be drained after 50 hours of operation. If it's good enough for aviation, it's good enough for my old Chevy, which now has 272,000 miles on the original engine. I've used synthetics exclusively in the motor since I picked up the vehicle. Is synthetic oil or a synthetic blend better for my car than regular motor oil?
It is better for your car. I wouldn't recommend mixing them though. In order to get the full effect from synthetic oil, you'll want to put it in a brand new car, or a car that's never used regular motor oil.Is synthetic oil or a synthetic blend better for my car than regular motor oil?
full synthetic oil is a lot better for your car, be it old or brand new. the reason being it is not carbon based so nothing gets burned when the oil heats up in your engine. this is mostly used by nearly 100% of race car drivers.

the other good thing about synthetic oil is its a bit lighter than regular oil so it sticks and binds to the metal parts in your enigne. this makes for better starting in the morning, as in no ';cold'; starts. since there is no burnt materials in the oil you tend to change oil and the oil filters less.

i have been using Mobil 1 on my '96 Nissan Sentra while driving in the traffic of Manila for 3 yrs and it runs real well. Mobil 1 has a 100,000 KM warranty before changing.

blended oils or semi-synthetic are also good but why go half-baked. get the full synthetic one.
What really matters is what condition your car is in. If it's fairly new, and you're going to keep it more than five years, use synthetic, and change the oil and filter every 6000 miles. If your car is a beater with 100,000 miles, and you're still going to keep it, use synthetic, and change the oil and filter every 7500 miles. If it's a POS, use the cheapest regular oil, and change it every 4000 miles. Synthetic blends are good for newer cars which the manufacturer specifies for it, i.e. Ford recommends Motorcraft 5W20 which is a synthetic blend.
much better than regular oil , but much higher prices too.
The synthetic oil are defintly better for your car's engine. They do not break down as fast as the synthetic blends. I work with 97% men and some of them have told me why they have switched to the synthetic oils, which is they have expirenced better life span of the engine and a has also extended the life span of the oil. When changed the syntheic oil wasn't black. One said with Quaker State oil when they changed the oil he had metal shavings in his oil pan but when he switched to the synthetic oil he no longer has this problem. And out of the five men asked all five said they have swithched to the synthetic oils. Hope this helps in making your desicion.
Yes. Synthetic Oil has higher viscosity, better high-heat performance, higher purity, reduced friction, better fuel consumption, resists oil sludge, and you need to replace it less. the only disadvantage to regular oil is that it costs a lot more than normal oil.
