Would putting a 10w40 motor oil in an 07 chevy pickup with a 4.8 liter damage the engine?

I would go with 10w-30 instead of the 40.Would putting a 10w40 motor oil in an 07 chevy pickup with a 4.8 liter damage the engine?
your manual calls for 5-30 and you should use 5-30. with a gm motor you'll have both better gas mileage and power by using the 5-30 than a heavier oil. you'll also have better engine life as the pump can't push the heavier oil up into the nether regions of the motor and thus parts of your upper won't be getting lubed with the heavier oil... there are reasons that the 5-30 is recommended, trust the engineer, they know your motor better than you do.Would putting a 10w40 motor oil in an 07 chevy pickup with a 4.8 liter damage the engine?
it would likely not get the preferred volume of oil flow through most smaller passages. and the mechanical efficiency would be worse. but its likely it wouldn't hurt. i have seen that sort of thing cause problems with valve train in some engines though. don't bother to find out just use 5w-20 or what ever gm says to use.
No. It will not harm your engine at all. The only difference is that it is slightly thicker than 10w30 which is probably what your truck takes. If anything it's kinda better to run a little bit thicker oil for pulling, it give you better oil compression.
No, It might not provide oiling qualifications required. It should use 5w30 oil. it has more lube quality for today's engines.
Use 5W30
Consult your used manual, do what it says.

Don't skimp on engine oil, it just isn't worth it
No because chevy makes the best small block in the world for taking a beaten.
It will be fine. If you live where it gets real cold it will be too stiff in the winter.
That will be just fine.
NO
