i have a little leak under neat the motor..
mechanic recommended to use thicker motor oil..What kind of car motor oil do you guys recommend?
Thicker oil (what was previously said) does not deter oil leaking. As to what kind of motor oil I can recommend, I'd suggest you'd use Pennzoil or Mobil 1.
Where exactly is the leak and what kind of car is it (year as well)? I could probably tell you approximately where it's leaking from.
Anyways, the thicker viscosity of oil will not help your car stop the leak at all. If anything, it can lead to oil separation when the car is off due to the different weights.
Whichever mechanic told you that the use of thicker oil will cure this doesn't know much about motor vehicles. What kind of car motor oil do you guys recommend?
Before going thicker, try a high mileage oil such as Valvoline MaxLife or Castrol GTX High Mileage. It worked great on two applications I used it in, and fully stopped the leak they had. I didn't have to increase viscosity, either. Good luck!
Thicker oil will not stop the leak. Oil additives will not stop the leak. How much oil per 1,000 miles are you losing? If less than 1 qt, I wouldn't worry about it. More than that, fix the leak.
fix the leak. 30 weight will work until it's fixed.
It can vary depending on the vehicle. 20-50 is nice for summer or straight 40 weight for a V-8.
