How long, in miles or time, since you changed your vehicle's motor oil?

http://www.ecarlog.comHow long, in miles or time, since you changed your vehicle's motor oil?
Change it every 25,000 miles with a filter change at 12,500. Currently 9200 miles in on current oil. Using Amsoil. Currently have 309200 miles on a 95' Ranger. How long, in miles or time, since you changed your vehicle's motor oil?
3000 miles, even though in my cars handbook I believe it says 5000 is okay.
Agree with many of the above,,,,every 3,000 miles. Realizing the manual tells me it doesn't have to be changed that often, it starts looking a little worn by that stage.
Jan I need to do it
every 3000 miles if you care about your car
the engine life lasts alot longer if you change the oil every 3,000 miles or every 3 months. by the way, i changed mine about 1,500 miles ago.
i change it every 3000 miles.
Because piston rings don't seal 100%, some exhaust leaks into the crank case where your oil is.So what? you may say. Well just think about what is in your exhaust.

Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon and unburned fuel not to mention water vapour.

All these products of combustion get absorbed into your engine oil.

Now if you combine these gases with water what do you get?

Carbonic acid, carbolic acid, nitric acid and sulphuric acid.

If these acids are left in the oil for long periods of time, they will start to eat the bearings in the crank shaft and connecting rods which are made with tin and lead called Babbitt.

Oh,I almost for got carbon.Carbon is a very hard material which will cause considerable wear on any moving part.

Which leaves the last part, the oil filter. There are basically 2 kinds of oil filters, full flow and by-pass types.

Depending on the type you happen to get, once the filter media is all plugged up then the oil by passes the filter and doesn't get cleaned at all. This a built in safety measure so the filter can doesn't blow up once its totally plugged up with carbon and other crud.

I hope this information helps some of you make a decision on how long to forget your engine oil.
in late January
