I need to know how much oil it holds, and whatever other info you can offer. Serious answers only please.
Thank you.How do you change the lower unit gear oil on a 85 horsepower Evenrude out board motor?
look at the starboard side of the gearbox, there are two stainless steel screws, one above the actual gearbox and one below. undo the lower one first, place an ice cream container or similar under the hole, then undo the top one. the oil will then run out. buy a container of new gear box oil, the boat shop should be able to tell you how much it holds, ( i can't recall exactly how much it holds), buy a empty bbq tomato sauce squeeze bottle, fill it with the new oil and flush some fresh oil through the gearbox from the top hole out of the bottom hole. you then refill the squeeze bottle, place the nozzle in the bottom hole and squeeze in the oil, until it starts to run out the top hole. replace the top hole screw, checking that the o ring is in place and not damaged, take the squeeze bottle out of the bottom hole and replace the bottom hole screw, checking the o ring beforehand. gearbox is now full of fresh oil. check colour of old oil to ensure there is no water contamination and check for any metal particilesHow do you change the lower unit gear oil on a 85 horsepower Evenrude out board motor?
Get a quart, you'll have some left over.
instead of the bbq sauce bottle, I highly recommend you splurge; spend the extra $10 and get the plastic pump (basspro, academy, cabelas, some walmarts have it), it's got a tube with a plastic fitting that screws into the drain plug. Pump it till it comes out the vent. No muss, no fuss.
same way as a 5hp try googling your Question i think you need pics..just leave out the brand and hp
